I have attributed this coin as Theodosius II but I am pretty sure its a barbarous issue due to the blundered legend and mintmark and the bust looks terrible. Theodosius ae4, Obverse - DNTHEODOSIVSPFAVG ( PF missing ) diademed, mantled bust right Reverse - Cross within wreath CON in ex, RIC X 445 Weight - 0.81g, Size - 12mm Added a couple of extra pictures of the obverse because the legend is hard to make out.

I still don't have a Marcian coin (sadly), and I don't think Leo fits the topic. I do have at least some Valentinian examples (haven't figured out the numbers yet), and some pretty nice ones from Arcadius, but I don't think I've made any photos of either. So here's my Honorius (sorry for the bad photo)... And this little eight-coin setup (I don't recall if I've done individual photos of them yet) includes the coin above (upper right) as well as several other coins from that era, and a few from slightly later... (Bonus question: the two nickels on the photos are different; what years are they from?)

Here is a Valentinian II AE-4 I think I will pick up in a week or so. $25 is a good price right?

Seems like a good price to me. I'd pay it, if I wanted the coin.

That's a really, really nice AE4 for the late 4th century. They hardly ever come up that good; many are missing parts of the design! It also nicely points out the weird idea of the time that a legend split in half is somehow better than an unbroken one (even if the emperor's head isn't actually in a position that would suggest a legend break).

Well it turns out that the patina is probably fake. A friend on another forum said that it is a good chance that the patina is glued on.Not sure what to do. I may just ask the dealer for a discount or free shipping

I have decided to get that coin! Hopefully that glue and sand will come off easy.

It is certainly an excellent example. The 'fake' patina isn't great, but I think its quite pleasing aesthetically, Id probably leave it. You never know what they may be hiding under there.

Yeah, I've heard about people using glue and sand to make fake sand patinas. Really disturbing for sure.
Lots of nice coins posted. Keep em coming!!

@ Ben, do you think the glue can cause damage to the coins surface?
