Opinions?
How common are these on a nickel?

The pics aren't convincing that both sides are the same coin, one just looks much too worn compared to the other. I'm thinking Magician's coin. Can you see a seam on the edge or in the rim?

I've added the edge. Not sure about impossible. Here is a PCGS graded double obv nickel.

although the coin posted looks suspicious an edge shot is needed to tell anything.

I wouldn't say impossible.....http://mikebyers.com/twotailedcent.html

another mark against the original post is that the genuine examples are 1 offs or 1 of 2 known for the most part and that they were almost certainly done by employees messing with around....there wasn't really much messing around at the mint until roughly 1967.

now that I see the rim pics I know it wasn't 2 sides glued together but the coin was IMO composed of 2 coins. 1 coin had the reverse hollowed out and the obverse of another nickel inserted into it. note the rim and denticles in the first pic and then compare them to the second pic, I can almost see the gap between the 2 pieces in the first pic.

I can definitely see a seam on the 1st pic between the rim and denticles. Agree with thedollarman.

Just because PCGS certifies a coin means nothing to me. Impossible to make at RCM in NORMAL production. Remember that NGC put an Olympic 10 dollar coin in a holder even tho it was struck with 1978 penny nickel dime and quarter dies. MAN MADE JUNK IMO.

An interesting lesson. Viewing the coin in a different "light" (not just the edge) it is now obvious that the hollowed out theory would be correct. One side hollowed out and the other thinned out being inserted. Here is a more revealing pic. I don't know how t he** I missed that.

the scrape line is probably from the lathe, I think he was referring to the edge around the denticals.
