Hello all,

I'm not a collector. I have this Half Cent that I found as a child, been carrying is around for a very long time. I'm trying to decide if its worth grading. Can anyone help with the probable grade of this?

Thanks!

Did you clean this coin at all at any point that you've had it?

I didn't but it was in my brothers possession for many years while I was in the Navy. Don't think he did. Does it look that way?

I'm wondering of its worth the cost of grading. Any idea what it's worth as is and after grading? Thanks.

If you do decide to send it in you might try their conservation service. They might be able to help, couldn't hurt.
How in the world did you find this coin as a child ? Very nice coin even with its flaws.

I was sitting on a large dirt pile from a new hole construction, throwing stones in the large water hole. Picked it up and realized it was a coin. I was about 7.

Great coin. I wouldn't get it graded it wouldn't be worth the money because it wouldn't add any value.

O.K. bengalBoy15.
I spoke too soon about not getting this coin graded. I looked up the die variety and it seems that this is a rare variety known as C-2.
I highly recommend you send this coin off to PCGS grading service as soon as possible. This is a once in a lifetime find. You can go to PCGS.com http://www.pcgs.com/ to inquire what it will take to get this coin into a slab. Pay the extra money and get it attributed.
If someone makes you an offer on this coin take no less than $1000. Once authenticated this coin could fetch much more. Here is a link showing the potential of this coin.
