Just a personal warning. One of the dealers linked here, in spite of their impeccable ratings on ebay, dabbles in fakes and sold me a coin, never arrived, and then re-listed it. Further, I had David Sear authenticate a Pertinax, and it was fake. I then sued ebay and won my cases in court so my evidence is solid and I will never buy via ebay again, not even if my own father listed a coin there. So Caveat Emptor. By the way Euro is down, but after Paypal fees and the like I was paying top dollar for coins and found better deals via CNG and other American auction houses. Example, I acquired a Heraclius Solidus via the site and paid $480, never arriving. Later I scooped up a better rated one via CNG for $460.

Savoca Coins had some ebay negative feedback like this. Not much, but some. As a percentage of their business on ebay it is tiny though. The other had no negative feedback whatsoever. Consensus I got from CCF was that fakes can get past anyone, but they are a reputable firm that came from a famous German auction house (Lanze I think).

Both are seller on Vcoins as well. Savoca tends to sell their lower grade material on ebay and keep their best for their own site and Vcoins. Dionysious sells really nice coins on ebay and Vcoins.

Hey BuckeyCoinGuy....

You've been a big help with the ebay front...

Quesiton though: I see Dionysious' listings are in German...when I use the translation tool on my browser, it translates some of the page, but not the actual ebay listing with the item details...just wanted to know how you get around this? Maybe I should try another browser...or learn German. Hahaha

I had issues with an ebay seller, named Dionysious. CNG is where I go now to buy coins.

Good to know caesar77, thanks.

Google Translate works pretty good.

https://translate.google.com/

Just copy and paste the German into google translate and it will convert it to English. I just tested it out on one of his listings and it worked pretty good.

That is a good denarius of Caracalla. I think you got a good price for it.

Good to hear that I got a good price on it. I'm looking forward to it arriving, it'll be my first roman silver coin.

Great looking coin Mr. Kramer. Let us know how it goes with your purchase.

Mostly does the coin match the picture, but things like packaging, shipping times, and potential customs fees are of interest.

I am still waiting on the coin I ordered from Savoca. Waiting to get that in hand to make sure I have a handle on costs (shipping was I think 10.50 euros for outside the EU and not what ebay said so I got taken there by not reading the German).

It seems to me like combining shipping on multiple coins from Savoca would be ideal economically, but the Dionysious dealer seems to have greater eye appeal.

With me being new to ancients, I just scroll through the list and add nice looking coins to the watch list and then if they fit my budget, research them an hour or two before the auction ends.

Your Caracalla was on my watch list as it has outstanding eye appeal to my untrained eye anyway.

Hope this goes well for you and I didn't help lead you down a bad path or anything.

I'll be sure to post some new pictures when it gets here. I'm paying with an echeck through paypal, so we will see how long my bank takes to get the funds cleared, but I'll update you all on shipping as well when it happens.

I was looking your coin up on Vcoins for price comps.

Not 100% sure I have the coin matched, but I think I do.

The first 5 coins here look to be the same coin in various grades and prices.

Edit: Forgot that the seller had some identification numbers. I was just going by picture on Vcoins. The coins I linked look similar but may not be according to the seller's identification.

Looked up your coin on wildwinds.
http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/ric/...calla/t.html

I tend to think it is the RIC 83 and not the RIC 80 as the seller identified.

That being said, I don't even know what RIC stands for.
