to explain further, it is caused by something on the die preventing a full strike, examples of what causes this is often referred to as grease but can include debris, water, grease, slag and possibly other things that I cant recall at the moment. it is called a strike through error.

Hi penny guy , I frequently use coinsandcanada.com as a reference . They have a tremendous amount of information including all errors and varieties . They explain all the errors and what causes them . Hope this help .
