It's finally warm enough here is SE Wisconsin to get out detecting. This afternoon, when it made it all the way to 34 degrees, I explored a little patch of village-owned woods by the Milwaukee River here in Grafton, WI.
I was thrilled to find a small pocket spill of three old Lincoln Wheat Cents. It consists of a 1919, a 1919-D and a 1920. They were only a couple of inches down.
I've got them soaking in hydrogen peroxide right now and as the dirt comes off they all look like high grade coins, so I would guess they were lost in the early 1920s.
