What would you grade this Peace dollar? It would be interesting to find at the VAM as well.

Hard to tell without the luster of a real photograph, but I'm guessing she's 53 - 55. How's her cartwheel?

Are you using scans by any chance?

Yes it is a scan. I do see luster on this one.

that's a mint state peace imo, in terms of details and strike...

the surface on the front is kinda grainy, and the overall luster is very dull, which doesn't jive with the condition, so I'm guessing this has been cleaned?

Scans cannot depict luster. In fact, luster is inverted on scans and will appear dark. So, there is probably little difference between fields and devices on this coin, but for a Peace dollar this is not alarming. Although the reverse is decently struck, the obverse is a tad weak, evidenced by the flattening of the peripheral letters.

That makes grading more complex. I'm calling this one slightly circulated from what I see, but don't take that as Gospel. In-hand the coin may convince me it's Uncirculated.

The "major" 1924-P VAMs all have prominent extra features like clashing and breaks, so this one would be difficult to attribute. It looks like an early die state which hasn't developed any interesting stuff yet.
