So I began CRH a few months ago and really enjoy getting pennies. It's cheap and I always get things I want to keep (canadians, wheats, coppers, etc). Lately it's been pretty dull but I still enjoy going through rolls when I get bored (if that makes any sense!). I still get a decent amount of wheats but they are almost always 1940's-P or 1950-D's.

Today I was going to go get rid of my old/dump pennies and realized I am turning back in a ton of nice zinc pennies since I never keep anything after 1982 after I confirm they do not have a common error! But many of the coins I'm talking back in are shimmering BU, pretty much uncirculated coins, some of which are older than 30 years old since zinc started in 1983.

Most of the pennies I find are in bad shape but I think I might start keeping some of the nicer zinc ones (example below). Might be hard to tell from the pics but a lot of the ones I'm finding are almost perfect condition.

I'll draw the line at LMC's though, don't want to get into the shield type as there are way too many BU's floating around out there. Does anyone who coin roll hunts keep the BU zinc pennies you find?

I save the older and semi-older ones. I've too many modern (post-2000) BU Memorials as it is.

In the first place, I think you have to be a little neurotic to CRH at all (hey, I do it too, so I can say it!).

That said, I don't think there's anything wrong with keeping the better examples of the zincs if you have the storage. It's not like you're tying up vast sums of cash in it. And, as has been said before, the zincs will deteriorate more quickly than coppers so in (a long, long) time, your shiny ones could be worth something if you keep them that way.

After searching a box I usually end up with a stack like your picture, but after comparing for upgrades in my albums, I dump them all.
Rest in Peace

I save any choice AU cents with tons of original mint luster from
1959 to 2009. ( NOTE ) I do not call them brilliant uncirculated.
but that's just me.

I was in the same boat as you sa330206. I was CRH for wheaties & came across a (nearly) full set of BU memorials along the way. I bought a Dansco 7100 (Lincoln cents 1909-2009). It's filled quite nicely from 1959-date.

In 10 years of CRHing, I've managed to fill a 1959-1982 book full of UNC cents (MS61-64) excluding several AU's. The 68P is one I still need in UNC.
