I'm thinking the tip of the 6 has been filed away so the 6 will look like the 'Far 6' variety. Two reasons why I think this: 1: tip of 6 does look like it has been tooled, 2. more importantly, the bottom of the 6 in a genuine 'far 6' is much lower and the bottoms of the '26' are almost parallel to each other. This one, the bottom of the 6 is very high in relation to the 2 and this only happens with a 'near 6' variety. Here's the picture and your thoughts are appreciated......  Edited by doubleeagle59

Looks like a tool mark above the 6;   I think you're correct, a near 6 altered. |

It's been altered, a real 'far 6' has a rotation on the 6 to the left, you can see this one is straight and can also see, where it has been cut.

Also...look at the bottom edge of the leaf (right-side leaf, that's above the 6) It's perfectly straight!! It's obviously been filed away. This coin is currently on ebay and some ignorant bidder is going to get burned. I've contacted the seller, but he will not change his auction. He says "I provide good pictures and I have a return policy" (so that's about it). |

Wow that bites. I paid much less for my 26' far and it is legitimately a far 6. I didn't notice how straight the bottom edge of that leaf was until doubleeagle pointed it out but now I can't believe I missed that when first looking at the pictures.

The auction abruptly ended in the final few hours. I can't find it in the 'completed items' section, so I don't think the seller ended it. I'm thinking ebay shut it down, but it's only a guess. |
