Did anyone attend the Coin show at the Nikkei Center in Burnaby on Saturday?
There were about 10 dealers there and only 6 of them were coin dealers. The others were stamp dealers and post card dealers.
I remember a couple of years ago it was a 2 day affair with lots of dealers but they seem to all disappeared.
It used to be at Oakridge Mall which was much more centrally located and convenient with the Canada Line. Now it is located in a out of the way place with virtually no customers.
So what happened?

Yeah I knew about it, but that's a long way for me to drive, and I had better things to do on Saturday. It's too bad.

I used to have a table there for years but the costs to attend from Vancouver Island were killing us. You can blame BC Ferries for that one. Vancouver is also not exactly the hot bed of Numismatics in Canada. In the very near future we are moving back to the lower mainland and we will start attending again. Our costs will DROP by over $500 as compared to travelling to Vancouver now from the Island. Moving the shows from where they were for years will take getting used to, but we are willing to give it a go starting at the June show! For anyone in the Vancouver area there are loads of regional shows in the Washington and Oregon area that are a tank of gas or less nearby that are still very well attended.

I did go to that show yesterday and picked up 9 really good additions to my collection, but it is getting smaller every time. I asked why it was only one day and was told it was alot more expensive to add the Sunday. I think Oakridge mall was probably getting expensive to. I would post pics of my pick-ups but I am having problems with optimizer. I wish there were more shows in the lower main land.

Guilty of not going, totally forgot and it was a busy Sat for me anyway. Shafta9a if I had as much snow as you I would have used any excuse to go somewhere..lol I agree with Pacificoin about the ridiculous cost of going back and forth to the island, I lived in Victoria for 4 years long ago and went back and forth every weekend, without paying through the teeth.

The reason that Oakridge is not used anymore is that they stopped accepting bookings beginning in January 2015. They are starting work on their major redevelopment, and the auditorium is probably the first area to be torn down.
The redevelopment design calls for new public/exhibit space to be built, but we'll see.

The last couple of times I attended that coin show it was more like a flea market with only local dealers showing up. It has gone down hill more and more every year with no out of town dealers or very few showing up for it, and yes it is sad it used to be a very good show to attend I think it has to be a two - three day show and once a year to get more dealers and people to show up now that I live in the interior its a long drive 3-4 hour drive for one day show.

Attendance at Oakridge was way down, not sure if moving location will change much.

I think if there was a little more promotion of the show it might have helped, I noticed it wasn't mentioned on CCF or places like craigslist, have to get the word out as much as possible.

I attended a show about 3 years ago, it was held at the private school in burnaby at kingsway and 12th there were about 15 to 20 venders, and a good number of buyers.
I have not seen this show pop up again, does anyone remember this?

Yes I went to that one about 3 years ago, but have not seen it mentioned since. I remember a group of hairy bikers selling coins at a table, they were quite knowledgeable too. I talked pennies with them.

Coins and bikers, it does to get any better than that. I will definitely have to go to the one in May. I'll jump on my bike and take the much hated BC FERRIES from the Sunshine Coast. Should be fun!
