Found a 1974 PL Set with a very odd OX head with very little detail. Thought I would share this coin. What makes this unique, its the first time for me to see this in a PL Set.Think this might qualify for a new 1974 dollar variety with Ken Potter?

Lack of detail generally means: -- weak strike, or -- worn dies, or -- a strike-through.
If you think it's none of those try your report.

The head always seems to lack detail, looks fairly normal to me. IMO

Weak strike IMO, also look at the shoulder.

I agree weak but I've seen lots of weak ones so I just consider that fairly normal, with these dollars there's always something.

Hi Chad, This is not a variation I would list. I have several new varieties to go up on my Canadian 1974 Nickel Dollar Variety page that I hope to get to shortly. I'm also going to get started on a page for the major 1968 dollar doubled dies -- a long overdue project. Ken Potter

Hi Ken, do you have the 67th Edition of the Charlton catalogue (2013)? I added several more varieties to those you had already documented, while you were recovering... send me a personal message or email if you want the gory details.
If you need any help with the Canadian nickel dollar series... I am definitely a resource available to you... I wrote the revised variety edition for the 67th Edition Charlton catalogue...

Hi Roger, I'd be happy to work with you on this, in particular on any of the 1974 dollar varieties I don't have listed yet so we can bring that page up to where it should be. I'll yell at you when I get the '74 page started. I'll also advise when I start on the 1968 DDs so you can see what I have listed. I've had a dozen or so different majors listed for over two decades but never had the time to work with them. Perhaps for the best, as my photography is much better now than it was 20 years ago and digital has made it so much easier. Alan Herbert shot most of the images of the 1968s I now have listed but after adding more and more varieties it became obvious more images were needed including markers so all needs to be reshot.

Roger, I did get the 67th edition. I need to go over it and others to refresh my memory as to what is in them. Seems I did not see the 1946 Doubled Ear, nose, eye, etc., dollar in there (also has quad HP). KP

I also write a column for the CN Journal (publication of the RCNA) on varieties, some new, some not-so-new. I'd be happy to share those with you, complete with images. You might have seen the Errorscope article I wrote for the 1967 1-cent doubled obverse (I think you were one of the reviewers for that article)... my CN Journal monthly column sort of follows that same format. Nice to see you back, and active!!
