As I keep reading about Sasanian, Parthian and Archamenid coinage the name Sellwood would keep coming up so I googled him.

When his collection was auctioned off in 2014 did anyone here get a piece of it? Did it come with a special certificate or something?

I think it would be neat to own a coin from his collection and I imagine some so-so coins get a bit of a premium when connected to him.

Harmonica,

I was fortunate enough to acquire seven ex-Sellwood's from the Baldwin's auctions. They are still on the front page of my Forum gallery, so if you read the captions below the coins on the following page, you'll see which are "Ex-David Sellwood Collection":

Additional Parthians are in the folder at the upper left on that page, but only those seven are from Sellwood's collection.

Wow, that tetradrahm is number Sellwood 47.4 variant, eh?

How cool is it that you two own coins from the guy who named their numbering system.

Sellwood is used for Parthian and Gobl is used for Sasanian. Is there a standard refrence for Archameind? I assume someone catalogued all the punch marks.

Hey Bob and echizento, do you value those coins as regular coins or did you pay more and excpect to get more out of them being a "Sellwood"?

Yes, paid a premium since they are ex-Sellwood. By "expect to get more out of them," I guess you mean when I resell? I would think the pedigree would factor in, yes. But that's not something I'm losing any sleep over. I won't be liquidating for years.

those are some fantastic parthians bobL, I've probably seen most of them here and there, but I haven't got to look at your whole parthian fleet.

that Kamnaskires IV with the counterstamp is sweet.

they're all pretty darn sweet.
