Today I picked up 1928A $1("Funny Back") and a 1934 $10 note and both were Silver Certificates. Since I have never succeeded in posting pictures and further since my question I don't think could be helped by posting pictures (?) since I perfectly happy with the grading that was listed on the notes I'm willing to accept them as stated.

However, my question is about the grading codes used by the coin shop. The $1 was graded as Au+ while the $10 bill was shop graded as VG. I'm just curious if these two grading codes are different or the same? As usual I think of these questions after I get home.

AU and VG are on opposite ends of the grading scale. Do these bills look similar condition wise?

No not really. The $10 VG bill has an obvious horizontal fold and wrinkle has three vertical folds like someone made it into a hold out bill or in feminine terms money for a cab ride home after a bad date. Even with these it is still a note that is worthy of a place in my collection.

The $1 Au+ has no visible folds, creases, or wrinkles. It almost looks like it could have been handed to me a crisp note from a bank teller today rather than being printed 87 years ago.

As I said I'm a pleased with both notes, one more so than the other though.

How far down the grading spectrum dues the VG rate

5th from the absolute bottom. (Poor, Fair, AG, G, then VG). VG notes will have evidence of a lot of circulation and could have pinholes, small tears, heavy creases, etc. Just a very circulated note.
