If any of you buy a coin from this person:

http://myworld.ebay.com/nancye913/

I'd like your assistance to do some science. I purchased a Lincoln from this seller with the "Rich Brown" designation only to discover the coin had been colored with something. A rinse with acetone removed most of it to reveal the coins TRUE color. Unfortunately, I didn't do it in a scientific manner to prove the coin was artificially colored. I'm wondering if someone would volunteer to let me completely analyze their coin in a laboratory, which would most likely totally remove the artificial color....so I'm telling you the coin will NOT LOOK THE SAME after I'm done.

I've been stewing over this for a couple of months now because I see his coins week after week and they have all been artificially colored....I am certain. As part of my analysis, I will use gravimetry, scanning electron microscopy with x-ray fluorescence detection, uv spectrophotometry, infrared, various solvents, filtration and possibly other techniques. I will get to bottom of this.

Terms:

1) I will pay shipping both ways (to and from you) and you will remain anonymous (if you like).
2) The coin will not look the same upon return because the artificial color will be removed. The surface will not be ruined in anyway, but the natural color will be restored. It will be cleaned with various solvents, no rubbing.
3) I'd like a Lincoln that matches well the base color he's using. An obvious XF-AU Lincoln (flattened cheek) with a "too good to be true" copperish color. This is a perfect example:

OH, man. That guy needs to be reported. I can tell from the picture it looks artificial. And it's all the same, perfect flat brown.

What would the point be of your scientific analysis? I mean, what question are you trying to answer?

Does he color his coins? You only have to look at the fact that he purchases natural-looking Lincolns and sells impossibly evenly brown ones.

I'm at the point where the question is: what can be done about it?

Before I report to ebay, do you think these are the same coin? Unfortunately, all I have for comparison is the marks/damage/whatever, in front of the ear...

His new auction:

An auction that he bought on 11/8:

Although the coin looks to be the exact same grade/quality, the '2' looks very different to me. If it wasn't for that, I'd agree with you 100% tights.

I noticed that myself, which is why I was refraining. I would imagine I'd have to go further back in their "bought" items to find the ones that are being listed now. It may take a while for them to "doctor" the coins completely....

It does not look the same to me. I went through all of her completed auctions this morning and most of them have poor pictures and no distinguishing marks. Here is a list of completed auctions, you have to be signed in-
http://cgi6.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.d...ed=1&guest=1
Then here is what is for sale-
http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQfgtpZ1Q...ssZnancye913 past 30 days-
And completed auctions-
http://cgi6.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.d...&completed=1

The only thing that can really be reported is she is not disclosing that the coins have been recolored. I have reported a person who undoubtedly has been selling recolored high price cents and nothing happened, one you could even see where it was a copy. I have reported shill bidders and nothing happened. So I doubt that ebay will do anything for this seller, especially since it seems that all the buyers are happy, the one neutral in the last 6 months is from Badthad. As the sayings goes "ignorance is bliss" and " a fool is soon parted from his money"
