Hello Everyone...
I have been going through my cents for the Cent Project... wheh! Anyhow... these are some of the coins I have found... These maybe very common things but I thought I would ask...
so here goes:
1. Very bright and shiny old pennies found in rolls? Can this be authentic or do you think someone has cleaned or dipped? This is a 1963D...

2. Missing or very faint letters or images... I am assuming that this happens to the die.
this is 1974D cents with no oF on rev
Cent-Project-

1973D no L in Liberty

and lastly... 1975D cents... Lincoln missing or faint in neck, lips and bridge of nose...

3. For lack of correct terminology... Lincoln has a "bump of metal" on his nose... (I looked through the glossary for a while but couldn't come up with the word... sorry)

Cent-Project-

If it's ok... I'll post more questions and pictures and if anyone else wants to post picts of finds and questions that would be great by me... is this ok Metalman?

1963 D cent - Yes you can find older ones in nice shape.

OF(s) missing and L missing - those coins were Struck Through Grease.

1975 D weak areas - that is the result of a die being overly dressed (polished) which is often done to remove evidence of a heavy die clash.

The last 1974 D - has what we lovingly refer to as a "hit" or a "ding" It was damaged probably by another coin hitting it.

Thanks Foundinrolls...
I figured they were all easily answered and common... but interesting.
I still have all the 6s,7s and 9s to go through and just for fun I got another $50 to do again!

Agreed on the above.

The 1974-D is a small date. Yes there were large and small dates that year on all three mints of Cents. sad part is that there are large numbers of both small and large Cents. The Cent project should let us know how many are left in circulation now. Be one year I would like to see the numbers remaining.

Ok, here's another... Is this Machine Doubling or what? I haven't tried to remove the yuck from the coin... I could see no other doubling anywhere. It is a 1984
Cent-Project-
thanks

The zinc core is corroding, causing the copper plating to bubble up.
