The are periods at the end of America, Fine and Dollar, yet they aren't sentences?

you would be surprised on how many people don't know this series (including me) even though they are one of the most counterfeited coins in the US coins series. The periods mentioned above is on all 1877 Trade dollars I know (because mine in my dansco album shows the same thing and its a 1877-S). All that being said it looks as if it either has a semi prooflike appearance in the fields behind the toning or it has been polished or something and retoned (not sure which)

GC said, "condition". Thats close 1877 Trade dollars are weakly struck on upper obverse, Liberty's head and stars. Note the killer strike on the stars on this example. Next time you have a chance to view some 1877 TD's see if this holds true.

I'd also be inclined to label this one counterfeit (unless a grading company calls it otherwise which I doubt would happen) because it has that pewter look that has a hidden "Made in China" message inside it.
What's its weight (grains or grams)? Certainly not a definitive characteristic since the Chinese add lead to bring it up to specs.
The Chinese never give up, do they?

<<I'd also be inclined to label this one counterfeit >> This is a authentic Trade dollar. Will it holder is the next question. Had the seller weighit 27.2 grams. Authentic weight.

It's got a great strike. It's also been cleaned and retoned (see hairlines on right obverse field). I have no idea whether or not it's a counterfeit, so I will leave that one to the experts.

the color looks off to me but I marked that up to the possibility that it had been improperly dipped and retoned or had been polished (because of the prooflike appearance in spots) and retoned

It looks real to me, I'd imagine ANACS would be the slabbing company, and yes, 1877s are almost uniformly weakly struck, the theory I remember being that since most were destined for the Orient that QC was not a big priority. A well-struck example is quite a relative rarity.
