It is very hard to post pictures on this website. I appreciate the responses from coin experts when I have questions or when I figure out how to post a picture going through the maze of resizing and downloading to my desktop. Is there anyway I can copy/paste or just drag a photo onto a post? I am not computer illiterate but posting photos on this site is almost impossible.

It's not difficult to post images here, it just takes a few steps and they need to under a certain size. Everything is outlined in the link Fuzzy posted.

You can also post your pictures to a service such as Flickr or Photobucket, then paste the link to the image in a post here. Many people do that as it allows for larger sized images.

If you still have trouble, let us know where specifically the trouble is and we can try to help.

I've been thinking about this recently too. I'm used to the system, but it IS a lot of steps to get a picture uploaded, resized and posted...not sure there is a way around it unless there were an app that allowed you to take a photo on your smartphone and upload to the CCF repository for later inserting into a post.

Downside of something like that is it could lead to a lot more of my crappy phone-quality pics.

Part and parcel of "the ability to take pictures" includes the ability to do what needs to be done with those pictures. Our system is easier than any postprocessing software which would achieve the same result - downsize the image sufficiently to post online.

The smallest of modern cameras take images of a filesize which would be offensive to post online. Those on smartphones and slower Internet connections would end up waiting minutes for your images to load. The skill to manipulate your images in postprocessing - be it with our software or (preferably) that on your own computer is imperative. Required, if you're going to post them at an online forum.

The whole point of our Optimizer forcing you to save the image locally is so you don't have to repeat the process the next time, and as a hint that you should be doing it locally.

Scott, there are many free, simple softwares not requiring a guru designed to let you do this locally. Some off the top of my head:

Irfanview
Paint.NET
Picasa
PhotoScape
Pixlr

And then there is the Gimp, which is *not* user-friendly but every bit as powerful as Photoshop. And it's free.

If you would like, feel free to post a thread in our Photography forum asking for opinion on processing software; it's a discussion we haven't had for a while and we would really prefer to see you comfortable with posting images.

I have to say that I feel just the opposite as the OP. I am far from a photo expert, and after the learning curve of posting my first few pictures here, I have to say that this site makes it super easy to post quality pictures that are the right size. The image optimizer is easy to use. There are a few steps, but I think it would take me days to post a picture the proper size on my own. I'm not sure how much more user friendly it can be.

I guess I should try to be more constructive in my response. I would suggest that you keep posting pictures with the image optimizer, it will get easier as you go. After a while you can do it pretty quickly. Sorry if I sounded rude.

Nothing wrong with what you said, thryan9. What we often run into is the reality that people learn in differing patterns. A thing which comes easily to you might not to another, regardless of anyone's "intelligence." Quite frankly, I had a bit of trouble with the Optimizer initially and I've got graphics experience going back to the 1980's.

So part of what we have to figure out, in order to be helpful, is how the person we're assisting learns. One's approach has to be tailored to the student.
