I have a grade in mind, but I'd like to hear your thoughts first. Thanks! Edited by KurtS 11/22/2007 11:09 pm

I am thinking ms 65, there's a couple of distracting dings( forehead, cheek, shoulder, back of head ) on the obverse

Thanks on the grade! A 65 would be great! I was guessing at least a 64, but I'll know better when I get it certified.

Not my series, but I'll give it a go and call it an ms64 with pcgs or ngc, maybe a 65 with anacs. Cool coin, Kurt!

Hi Kurt
Speaking only to the grade ,the pics are not large enough to pick out any details for Authentication ,, I think the coin will grade a very strong MS-63 possible a 64 ,,with the shadows on the coin I hesitate to call it Red,, but it looks like it has a shot at the color designation .
The big hit on the forehead and the jaw will be the determining factor between 63 and 64 ,,being a key date the graders could go either way liberal or conservative .
I hope they lean to the high side !
Very nice coin !

Very nice, looks red in the pics, I'd say 64 due to key status and eye appeal, anywhere from 63-65 though.

63RD (has hit in field and on forehead), but I could see this possibly going 64 for eye appeal.

Thanks for all your grades! I'm going to give this one an MS64 since PCGS does allow for a few marks in this grade, and this coin certainly has good eye appeal and a nice strike. I'll follow up when this returns from grading...thanks! Here are a few more lighting angles on this coin:

Good luck with the submission ,,and Like I said I hope the graders lean to the high side .
From the pics the coin still looks boarderline for the Red color designation ,,

Interesting point Metalman...I'll just have to see how it grades, although the consensus with colleagues so far has been RD. Btw, these photos were from the dealer, and all this shots in the "MS63-65 RD" range look this way. I now suspect this color is due to his lighting setup.

Very nice. I'm thinking 64 because the hit on the forehead is a bit detracting to me. Update us with the results when you get them back.

MS64 I can't decide on Red or RB based on these pics.

Thanks for all your comments. I just spoke with the dealer, who reassured me it's "red". Either way, I'll know first-hand in the morning.

Hi Kurt. I am thinking MS-63 RB. That bang on the forehead is really keeping me from 64. the Obverse appears red but the reverse looks ot move it into rb. Let us know when it comes back and what a nice coin. Jim

By way of an update, I have viewed the coin in person and my gut tells me it's a borderline RB. Given how volatile pricing is on RB vs RD, I'm not going to chance this one with PCGS.
Thanks Metalman for the heads-up on this one...avoiding a borderline case like this may have saved me money. :)
