Not sure if this is the best forum to post this in, but I didn't think any of the others seemed better. ebay removed an item from our store recently, and when we called to question them, they told us we were not allowed to sell clad US MINT coins on ebay! Not the ones in circulation, or any of them?!? This sounds like a line of BS to me, but they repeatedly told us and said it is an ebay policy and that they "remove all clad coins from ebay". Huh.... I can show a couple thousand on there right now LOL.... Anyone else having trouble?

They probably idiots and think you are selling plated bullion. I could see having the US Mint on your listing might be iffy if it's prominent. The Mint doesn't like being anything that makes them seen like they are endorsing something they not etc and is probally on ebays case on it. I would just try to change your wording to get past the censors. Just call them United States non-silver proof sets or something.

Well I didn't mention the US mint. They just said "any clad coin cannot be sold, even if it is from the US mint" So we said, "so every proof coin after 1970, and every cent after 1982 cannot be sold? " And they said YES.... Also a non coin item was removed. It was a clad bullion item (a layer of gold, and a layer of brass) and we correctly described it.

I think the guy was confused at the intent. They don't want you selling clad bullion items because of the potential of fraud, you may be honest but the guy you sell it too might not.

It's a great example of the lunatics running the asylum. Also, of the Peter Principle, where employees in a company rise to their natural level of incompetence.
In short, the person who made this decision believes something to be true. And if you haven't learned by now, if you ask someone if something is true and they answer, "I believe so," that means they have no idea if it's true or not.

Reminds me of the time I wrote the mint a letter about how to make the dollar coins more popular. I've trained and worked in advertising and marketing, and I wanted to share some of my ideas. I received a curt letter in response from some low-level employee who said they know what they're doing and they've tried everything and thank you but they don't need my help.
Besides that, I knew the person was a poser because not only was their signature an illegible scribble, they didn't type their name underneath the signature. Anyone in business knows the proper form for a business letter, and this person didn't. Obviously some ferret-faced intern hired for the summer to shield the decision-makers from the public.

That's absolutely crazy! Somebody at ebay needs to be retrained! Did you happen to point at the thousands of listings of slabbed coins on ebay?

I don't think we have the whole story.
Tell us EXACTLY what was removed. Better yet, post a picture.

Something sounds very wrong here. I see slabbed clad coins for sale all the time on ebay. I have bought and sold several myself.

Yes, obviously the person had NO idea what they were even talking about.... Yes, I did point out all the coins on there. Doesn't really matter, my point was just to alert you all because, after telling them about all the coins that were clad that were listed, they said "well we remove those, and will continue to remove them". So not sure what they were talking about LOL

Tell us EXACTLY what was removed. Better yet, post a picture. ... Are you talking about a clad 'replica' of a silver coin or something? I cannot imagine ebay pulling a listing for a legitimate U.S. circulation issue and saying that about clad coinage not being allowed to be sold? Seems like something is missing?
