Does anyone out there live near a casino and get coins to search through this way?

I used to live in Philly and would go to Atlantic City beach and while there, would pick up hundreds of dollars in nickels to search through. Nice thing was that I didn't have to roll them back up, just cash them back in. Always would get lots of keepers in the 40s and 50s.

Now I live in Shreveport area and we have also casinos here. I've only tried once getting halves from the casino- $200 worth and not a single silver piece. El SKUNKO! I was wondering if the casinos already removed the silver because they could be rejected by the slot machines? I do know that the coin sorting machines in grocery stores reject silver, but I don't know about the slots. Does anyone know?

Many of the casions in my area don't take coins anymore- they use electronic cards. I guess it's faster for the casinos to siphon people's money.

Before Vegas went ticket in ticket out I used to buy a couple of boxes of Half dollars from the cage every night and sort them I found a couple of silvers in every box. Now if the cage even has half dollars they are well searched clad ones.

I'm thinking if anything is worth searching with the casinos, it would be the nickels. When I was in vegas and when you could find slots that took coins, the nickels were so worn down that anything you found would be in G to VG at best.

I did notice that the slot machines were not picky at all with what you put in them. Without using a players club card, I found that the couple slot machines that still took halves, took all the tokens I have found roll searching just fine. I've also heard that the machines are also extremely tolerant with the bills also. They way it was explained to me is that the casino would take the risk on getting a counterfeit than turn away hundreds of gamblers because their money was too worn down.

I've lived within sight of Atlantic City for a dozen years. The problems I've found with searching casino coins are, first, silver won't go through the slots; it bins them and the casino gets them. Second, everything is pretty badly machined - I've got a few quarters which are noticeably lesser in diameter than a normal coin.

I have looked through coins from Vegas and AC ("when they had coins") and the coins were always very well worn.
I spent 13 years in Frankfurt Germany and all the NCO clubs there have the slots as well and only coins I ever kept from them was the year that the 76 came out.and I kept a few rolls of quarters but only because they had not yet hit the machines lol they only need to go through the slots a few times to ruin them for the collectors.

Not so much coins anymore, due to the same reasons listed above, but I do go to the cages and get a couple hundred in cash from each to search for low serial and star notes. Helps kill time if gambling is bad.

Always happy when I find a keeper, that way I can say I went home with "some" money.
