Here are two coins that have extra dots. The 20 Lei has the dot between the numerals in date. The colombia has extra dot on obverse between legend and dot on reverse is in middle of coin between 1 and 0. Does anyone know why they are on these coins specifically? I collect U.S. coins, but these are foreign coins that my dad needs to find out if they are rare?

Interesting - especially the Columbian coin - which looks like a new denomination the 1.0 Centavos instead of the 10 Centavos. Provided they are actual die features (not glued on) I would think it rises to a sub-variety level.

Die dots - are rather common, but the locations here look like they were "possibly" a deliberate act by a mint employee as opposed to a random act of damage or deterioration. The value here comes from notariety. The extra leaves on the US Wisconsin Quarter Dollar would be in about the same category. I don't presume to say that the Columbian is as valuable - but it is likely as RARE on a technical basis.

Thank you for the info The 20 lei looks wierd, but he has two with the dots in the exact same place. The colombian is a very nice piece, and they are not glued on. I collect U.S. coins and these dots remind me of the 1884 Morgan dollar and the 1926-s Peace dollar. They have dots just like these two foreign coins. I was told they were a result of SILVER content or weight change...if I remember correctly. Maybe these are on for design change
