RB= Red brown
BR= Brown
RD= Red

These refer to the color of the coin. Red is the most desirable and worth the most.

'Brown' is also sometimes abbreviated as BN.

These color designations are most typically used for uncirculated examples of cents (coins that have absolutely NO wear). If these coins are circulated (and I'm guessing that they are), they are probably all Brown. Their value will primarily depend on their 'Grade' (how worn they are) and their date.

Please don't clean them, this will decrease their value!

Oh yeah, welcome to the forum!

Those look like circulated cents, all Brown. I'd recommend buying a ' RedBook' ("A Guide Book of United Sates Coins" by R. S. Yeoman). Low grade common dates are worth around $1. Rare dates and high grades can be worth much more. ' RedBook' is a good basic reference that virtually all coin collectors own and will be well worth the investment. You appear to now be the owner of a collection worth at least $1500, and potentially much more!

I collect Indian Head cents, too. Did you find anything good among your 1500 coin lot? Welcome to the forum!

Hey, I just bought 50 low grade I.P's with 150 Buffalo nickles (all legible dates) for $100.00 bucks and considered it a great deal ! I had my girlfriend and her 3 year old daughter with me. The old guy fell in love with her ! He had her sit on her lap and let her pay other customers while me and my girlfriend carefully went through his giant collection of I.P's and Buffalo's with his blessing right in front of him ! I'll have to go there again as soon as I can afford it !
