Nice coin, I'd grade it as EF-40.

Hi Acidic,
I'd agree with an EF-40 grade for detail and the coin is strong for that grade. It does have some fairly heavy obverse nicks and the patchy color may be the result of an old cleaning. Still, very presentable and hard to find in high circulated grade.

Don't overlook the fact that this New Orleans-minted coin is much more valuable than the 1896-P! Coin Market magazine from Numismatic News currently values this coin at $425 in EF-40. It might be worth sending it in for grading and authentication. I might go with ANACS, since they will still slab it even if they decide it is cleaned or excessively nicked.

EF details, cleaned, scratched. Either way, it's a nice coin.
