I'm on the way to buy a medal set from a friend at work, niether of us can i.d. this set. it is a black velvet folder with a metal u.s. mint symbol on the front and contains about ten medals each depicting different revolutionary war battles. my guess is that it from our bicentennial year. thanks in advance for the help. I've got to leave and go make the doughnuts. I will check all your replies when I get back.
thanks, Scott

Welcome to the forum, 44. Your description seems to ring a bell but I am not pulling it out of the recesses of this 54 yr old mind. Can you post any pics?

I will look for your intro in case I missed it. If you have not done one yet, please do and tell us about your interests in collecting.

Maybe it is something from the Franklin mint, and not the U.S. MINT. got to have some pictures and welcome to our forum.

I seem to recal that during the bicentennial a set of restrikes of the original revolutionary war medals that were authorized by congress were made. I think 12 would be the right number of pieces. I do not know if they were made by the US mint though or a private mine.

Yes, it was called Heroes of the American Revolution issued by the U.S Mint in 1973--I believe in pewter.
