March 26th the mint release the 2015 Silver Eagle UNC.
I had to get one for my boy, that's my gift to him every year.

While on the mints website I decided to see what they had for cheap because I had $100 burning a hole in my pocket.

I decided to pick up Perry's Victory three coin set.
I figured, why not, the monuments practically in my back yard.

Then I said "Hey"...2010 started the America The Beautiful series and they have these nice 10 coin P&D Circ sets. They had all of them except 2012, SO I added them to my cart.
Purchased, shipped and arrived the other day.
Open them up and take a peek.
The Silver Unc is very nice.
Perry's three coin set, very nice.
The Circulating sets....Ummmm....I didn't realize they actually pulled them out of circulation and sealed them in these blister packs.
I'm being sarcastic.

I have never purchased a Circ. coin from the mint before and I was expecting more. The rims on every coin look like they were drug on the concrete. Philly was better than the Denver ones. The lack of relief on Washington is amazing, I personally received the last strike coin from each series.
How can anyone be that lucky? VLDS x10

The size and depth of some of the scratches is deeper than the Grand Canyon, which happens to be on the 2010 series. How ironic.

This has taught me some very good lessons.
I now appreciate a circ. above MS68
I also have appreciation for finding better quality coins in my pocket.

With all that said...I'll still have to complete the OGP set.
What is wrong with me.

UNC coins are handled one at a time, usually at higher pressure or multiple times. And then packaged and boxed individually. Circulation strikes are fed en masse from a hopper full of planchets, into the edger, back to a hopper, fed into the press which stamps them at lower pressure and once, making 12.5 coins every second. Then dumped back into a huge hopper. Are you seeing anywhere in the process where they may get a nick or a mar?

When you're minting a quarter-Billion of them a year, something has to give. That's 475 coins per minute continuously for a 365-day period....

Yeah but it doesn't take that long. The horizontal strike schuler presses run at around 750 coins per minute. (or roughly 13 coins per second.)

I historically collect coins from circulation and these ten coin circulating ATB sets are the only way I have been able to fill my those holes in my album. I had no delusions of a six dollar set being the same quality as a fifteen dollar one.
