When I'm looking for the 1942/1 error, should I keep my eyes out solely for 1942 coins that may have the die error or would there be a resultant 1941 from the error?

Also, what other Mercurys, besides 16-D, 21, and 21-D should I keep my eyes out for?

Thanks,
Jim

The 1926S, 1930S, 1931D and the 1931S are all fairly rare dates. The 1916D, obviously, is the most rare. As far as what to look for on the error, I will have to confess a lack of knowledge and await a reply to learn for myself.

J H S The over date on the 1942/1 was a hubbing of a 1941 hub and then re-hubbing with a 1942 hub. Thus the Variety (not error as varieties are made into the die. Errors are worn dies/machine doubling/off center strikes/off metal strikes/broad struck/ ETC. The difference being that normal coins was made from this die until damaged. On a variety every coin struck with this die will have the same anomaly.)So the over date would be on the 1942 dimes Philly or Denver. Only one die from each mint made these. They are not common and highly desired thus worth a lot more than a normal one. But it is a variety an over-date.

Thanks for your responses to my question. I finally found a good, clear picture of the error on the web.

Keep any Mercs that you get.
They seem to be increasing in value, especially lately.

Would you get a 1916-D mercury officially graded, if it's above "good?"
