I remember showing a pic of this coin a while back & finally found it again after going through my safe & remember someone saying they would like to study it due to it being stamped "counterfeit" on such an older coin...

Now I found it again, I would be willing to send it out to be studied to whomever mentioned this before...

Just curious what you would be looking at about this coin?
I assume it would be what it's made of & why someone stamped it as they did?

I assume that it was the government that stamped it, but am curious how it wasn't melted if it was really a counterfeit coin...

Hope to hear from whomever it was that wanted to see this coin "in-hand" to research it & we can chat about it being sent/returned to me after your investigation.

That was probably me... It would be interesting to XRF this coin, to see what metals they were making contemporary counterfeit coins from...

Except I am super busy with work, so I probably won't get around to studying this until the fall...

That is a fascinating coin... Were there many circulating contemporary counterfeits in Canada around that time?

to nickelsguy and spp-ottawa, if I recall correctly my lcs has some contemporary counterfeit Victorian halves that If I recall look pretty beaten and circulated(most likely lead). I could probably get them for you two to study and use the info about them. didn't want to hijack the thread so just pm me if you guys are interested.

to the op, that is one strange coin...I almost hope the coin is genuine just to add to the mystery of the stamp.
Feel free to call me Will.

After trying to look up anything on "fake coins" since I posted this topic, I ran across this ebay auction which show them as "movie prop" coins...

I guess it's 1 way to sell these types of coins on ebay:
