I recently purchased on ebay a QX 3 microscope.
Do any of you have one?
How have you used it?
Do you find it useful?

I am trying to decide if I am going to keep this tool or resell it?

Very interested in hearing your comments.

Well if your paying a lot of money for a small grading detail such as split bands or split tails I suppose it's a good idea to make sure that detail is really there. I just don't believe in buying coins that way. If I need anything more then a 7X loupe for a detail then I view the detail as hype.
Rest in Peace

I with you Longnine. I will use a 10x once in a while but for basic grading 7x works real well.

I don't think the QX3 would be useful for grading. For taking shots of dates, mint marks or other occasional extreme close ups it is pretty good. I consider it more of a neat little toy than anything else.

Truthfully, you for an occasional extreme close up, you can use a loupe in front of a digital camera if you have a steady hand...and a digital camera and loupe, of course. ;)

Some examples of this method:

I agree with Stujoe. Microscopes are great tools, but not for grading. However, if you really like the idea of buying a microscope, check out these.

I personally use the MP-600T

Absolutely LOVE it!

Good optics
I think I will keep the QX3 for a while then work my way up to one of these beauties.

Absolutely LOVE it!

I have the QX3 and I love it!! I use it to help identify and attribute VAMs. For aid in grading? No.

Thank you

One more reason to get a QX3, it took the pics, and all I have to do is post them
