A seller has over 15 lbs of coins and is charging $35. I politely said I was interested but the shipping was nuts. I mentioned flat rate and such and he shot a response back with this... quote: Do you understand that you are prohibited from shipping coins of any variety via flat rate? I ship over 1500 items a year, so I know a thing or two about shipping. What you want is something fast and secure. If you do not agree to my shipping terms, don't bid.
Any merit to his words about the flat rate? I've never heard of this Edited by GO 12/11/2007 11:16 am

None. You can put 70 pounds of wheaties in a flat rate box.

OK I did some digging. Flat rate International and Express forbids gold, silver, cash, coins, watches etc I want his coins and if he doesn't have a change of heart I'll unleash the forum on him and have his auction canceled.

And you could call 5 different times and get 5 different answers. I'm not kidding.

I've bought coins numerous times and had them shipped in flat rate boxes, and never had an issue. I was told that the box is good for up to 50 lbs.

Exactly what I mean with postal employees. They are without a doubt the worst trained employees on the planet. It's 70 pounds, and if you stuff one full of wheaties, that's exactly what it is. Had some old flintlock pistols to ship once. Local postmaster told me I couldn't ship them, one clerk told me I could as long as no ammo was in the same package, another clerk told me they could be shipped no matter what. The last one was right. Had a different postmaster tell me the player piano rolls that I was shipping couldn't go media mail. Even made a $100 bet with me then never paid up when I was right. Don't ever believe what the Post Office tells you even if it's the boss. Look it up yourself in the Domestic Mail Manual.

I asked the seller about his shipping and said I was very interested in bidding, but not at that shipping cost, told him about flat rate, etc. Here is his response: QUOTE: I had to cancel and relist, I lowered shipping to $12 (Shipping+materials+signature confirmation) the item will be available starting at 1600 today. thanks So, we can and do have an impact in this forum on ebay. The re-listed item, is not yet up but supposedly goes up later today.
