Two of my cousins (they are ages 7 and 10) have shown some interest in coin collecting. For Christmas they are each getting a binder. The binders include a cross selection of foreign and US (both notes and coins). A few tokens have also been included.

I would like to include some pages of sort of "how to collect". Things like how to handle the money, how to store it, what to look for in change (i.e. star notes, wheat pennies, etc.) and anything else that might be useful for them.

I turn to you my Coin Community Family in search of advice to include in their binders. I think with gentle prodding and a little guidance we can easily foster a desire to continue collecting.

Not sure if anyone has bought these before, but I thought I remembered someone referencing these and that they were pretty darn nice for a YN. Straight from the mint. Although I'm not sure about the timing in getting one of these before xmas....

Not necessarily pages for a binder but how about used or out of print books? At Amazon I saw a copy of:

The Whitman Coin Guide to Coin Collecting by Kenneth E. Bressett (Paperback - Sep 2003) It was only 28 cents plus shipping.

How about taking them to the library and getting them their own cards. Then show them where the coin books are at and let them check out what they're interested in.

Add Redbooks to the binders ,, and then when you find an iteresting article in a coin magazine or page in one of your reference books make them copies for their binders .

that way every once in awhile they get a booster for the interest level .

You can also give them an Ce harris cent folder that is 1941 thru 74 and the 75 thru 2007 folder . They cost like 6 bucks per set. I would also give them an 25 dollar bank box of pennys and let them fill it. It would be blast whacthing them fill up the book. I would buy the 41 thru 58 wheats in roll on ebay since they cant find wheats anymore in those bank boxs. Let them have blast building an set aslong with binders your talking about it.

It would give them way to learn on how build set and what to do with 2500 pennys after they fill up book. Those pennys could teach on how to roll up and save them to cash into bank for more unsearched rolls to finish there set.

They have started on both penny folders already. The '75-'07 are almost complete for both of them and they have a good start on the '41-'74. I could probably start them on some nickels though. Thanks for the ideas everyone!
