Hello everyone, newbie here so take it easy on me ;) I've been going through a bunch of coins my grandfather had and noticed this coin among the silver quarters. I have no idea if this coin is an error coin or if someone or something did this damage to the coin after it was minted. If someone could shed some light on this for me it would be much appreciated! Thanks!

It looks like PMD (Post Mint Damage) to me. Is that copper I see on the edge?

Pretty sure you have a railroad coin! I have a few silver dimes and quarters from my dad who made he, when he was a teen. Hard to see if yours is silver, but it think I see some copper showing indicating you coin remnant is from a clad quarter.

Unfortunately not even worth a quarter, unless a bank will change it for you. But I love the ones my father gave me, and they have way too much sentimental value to sell or discard. They are nice to carry around though and they are so slick that they feel really cool rubbing them.

Thanks guys, I believe it is a legitimate silver quarter because it was with many other silver quarters in a case. I guess I found it strange that the rim is perfectly intact.

cool find!

I do have a suggestion about your pictures though.

If you could please use the crop feature to narrow to only the coin as much as possible it would be very helpful. CCF has a Free optimizer to help you to do this!

It helps keep the server clear and is less distracting when trying to look at the coin itself.

Just a friendly suggestion.

Great find!

I cant tell from the pic if it is silver or not. But it is clearly a coin that was flattened somehow.
