ok so has anyone else got boxes of pennies and found dimes in the rolls? I have so far found about 6 rolls, from different boxes, in the white with red wording paper wraps with dimes in them with the pennies. what is going on with that? why?

I'm guessing customers mistake the dimes as pennies because of their copper edge and slightly smaller size when they cash in their rolls. If you have a whole bunch of coins and have to roll them all up, it is likely you might mistake a dime for a penny.

One time I opened a penny roll from a box and it was a full roll of dimes. That was so bazaar to me.

I also find dimes, semi-regularly, and presume it is done inadvertently. I consider it a nice find each time it happens. I have noticed that it only occurs on hand rolled examples, never the machine rolled varieties.

Coin separators (counters) have a few adjustments that can be made so almost any size coin can be counted. If the machine is set too tightly it can exclude or jam on bent or brand new coins that are a little out of spec and if set to loosely they'll pass different sized coins. It's common for slightly smaller coins to be included with larger coins if it's too sloppy. I suspect this is what's happening here.

I have found a dime in a machine wrapped roll from a sealed Brinks box.
