This is unbelievable. A 1946 French Zinc 20 Ctms. Packaged in a small zip bag. That stapled to an ordinary 3x5 card, then covered with packaging tape. I tried to pull the tape away but the staple held firm and when the card bent the coin shattered.

I have encountered some tape freaks on ebay who think they are doing right but this takes the top.

Aach. I keep forgetting about all the posting categories. Please put this where it might properly belong.

I once snapped an 800-year old denier from Lorraine that had been, to that point, a very nice looking coin. Now I am much more careful opening packages. I suppose it is a learning process.

And, sorry for your loss. That would have been a nice coin. At least it wasn't a 1945 C.

It can happen with zinc! I am always very picky about the quality of my zinc coins since I know they can oxidize to destructive levels.

I notified the seller who said he should have known better and refunded my purchase without my asking

I've only ever seen that happen to corroded zinc pieces - particularly if they have been in the ground.

Zinc corrodes when you look at it funny. That's what our Cents will be doing in 50 years.

I would certainly let the seller know, if only to prevent them from doing this again.

I find it odd that so many people sell coins or anything on the internet with so little knowledge on how to ship.

->awesome to hear the seller refunded you!
Most sellers would send a "buyer beware" comment or just say too bad.

That seller deserves 3 dancing strawberries & 1 hot pepper!!

Would this be considered "fractional currency" now?
