I don't know but I like his mustache. Either die break or lamination. I am leaning towards lamination.

Upon close examination of this coin, I have come to one conclusion. While there are many varieties, I say fu man chu.

He actually doesn't look bad with it. He was something else back in the day. by the way, I think it's a lamination.

Most likely a lamination, but my heart really wants to see a displaced-field Retained Cud. How, if at all, does it proceed across the face?

I was wondering the same thing. PS: I would really appreciate it if an expert would read my quote on Eva's nickel.

This is about the extent of what I see on the face (under the chin area.) After this I might vaguely see it in some places, but maybe not. I don't really know where it goes after the nose, I would have expected to see it under the nose a little

What should I expect to find/look for to make the determination?

You want to be looking for places where the lamination clearly shows separation from the surface of the coin. On this one, the area around the 9 looks very much like lamination - which is why I lean that way - but the rest of it looks like a die crack. If it *is* a crack, then the area around the 9 could be a displaced field. But if it's all die crack, you ought to be able to identify it going completely across the face, something I don't see here. If the 9 is displaced field, the crack pretty much must go all the way through. It's why I used the term, "I wish."

Quote: PS: I would really appreciate it if an expert would read my quote on Eva's nickel. Thank you for the request coinmaster , my nickel truly is weirdly unique with that said.... It looks to me like it's lamination til it gets to the 9 starts cracking. Can lamination cause a die to crack?

I think super Dave is on the right track I want to say Retained Cud cause it looks rim to rim and it's hard to see under th nose and under the stache but I think it may have been circulated off of the spots by the chin. I'm on my phone so when I zoom in it is still small but below the 9 it almost looks like on the rim it was beginning to fall away ? Does anyone else on a bigger screen see that?

Is there any way you can lift it with a toothpick? Just an idea, probably won't work.
