I have a silver penny 18mm in diameter. It is hand pressed and has the London mint mark on one side ( a long cross with three pellets in each corner). On the other side it has a tudor rose with no crown. It bears the mark MDG rosa sine spiva so I assume it is a queen Mary penny.

What I don't undestand is that all pictures of tudor pennies I can find have a bust of Mary on one side or bear the PZ of king phillip of Spain. Also all pictures I see on ebay or google images show the mint mark as a cross over a shield or coat of arms, this does not but looks like earlier Edward I pennies. Other pennies I have seen from this time have a crown over the rose, this does not.

Can someone give me the history of this coin and when it was minted? are they rare or commonplace? I am curious because it does not look the same as images I have seen on the internet.

Not entirely sure what it's meant to be. The designs for the front and back don't match in that they were used during different historical periods.

But I can tell you it's a modern replica struck in lead-free pewter or similar I'm afraid. Probably made as a souvenir for some stately home.

not sure but it bares some resemblance to the long cross silver penny of the 12th century

The obverse design is from a penny of Mary Tudor. But the reverse is from the short cross series a few hundred years prior to that. Bit odd.
