Hi. Just looking for some comments. I have recently sent coins to APCGS for grading that I had previously bought from some reputable coin auctions. The coins were listed as varying from unc to ch unc and cost quite a bit of money. Out of nearly 40 coins only 4 came back with a MS grading. My question is are the coins from these auctions just not as good as they are described or is APCGS very hard on there gradings. Cheers

Names of the auctions would help to work out what is going on.

Wow, I see a red flag. Don't buy coins that "cost quite a bit of money" that aren't already slabbed by a reputable TPG. You need to have the comfort of: -- authenticity -- originality -- grade EXCEPTION: You yourself have exceptional knowledge of grading the type of coins you bought.

Welcome to Coin Community, don1964. You're not going to enjoy what you're about to hear about APCGS. And agent86, consider this a warning about your choice of language, regardless of any factual basis for it.

I doubt very much that you would have got a shonky grade from numisbid. All the raw coins sold on that auction site are accurately graded and honestly described eg cleaning etc. Maybe you picked up some ef or au coins and expected an MS grade for them? Or maybe it was the way you handled or stored the coins. If they didnt make MS at APCGS then they most definately wouldnt make the cut with a reputable TPG. T answer you question NO I do not think APCGS is tough on grades at all, quite the contrary is my opinion.

the fact that you send coins to APCGS shows you have a lot to learn about numismatics , please seek advice before you buy any more coins or visit a auction house and if you want to have a chance of recouping some of your losses you must resubmit your coins to pcgs and if they cross over in the same grade as APCGS you can at least sell them sight unseen no problems

We are yet to be convinced that APCGS is a genuine attempt at creating a TPG. They have all the characteristics of what the Americans call a "basement slabber", owned and operated by a coin dealership in Port Macquarie who, by an astonishing coincidence, is the only coin dealer in Australia who routinely sells APCGS-slabbed coins. APCGS also got off on the wrong foot with the mods and admins of this forum by spamming us using multiple IDs. I have basically given up waiting for a public acknowledgement or apology from them regarding this, which is something a genuine TPG would have done promptly and contritely. A positive word or opinion about APCGS is therefore not likely to be tolerated here. The only reason "APCGS" has not (yet) been added to the forum swearword filter is that we wish to continue to educate the unaware of the true nature of this "company".

That's not exactly the reply I was looking for agent86. Go and have your rave to the chief and 99, specially when you have no idea who you are replying to. Everyone else thank you for your opinions
