Then please, for his sake, learn what we're trying to teach you here. It doesn't seem to be penetrating.

my son is all excited but cant get him an error coin and I am trying my best to get him one

I think you are missing the point that errors are desirable because they are not easy to find, I have searched through tens of thousands of coins and I have never found one single legitimate error(die cracks, chips, minor grease strike-throughs and clashes do not count- all of them are exceedingly common and not screened out by the Mint). If you could sift through a handful of pocket change and find an error, hardly anyone would care about collecting them due to commonality.

Yeah I agree. I have gone through box after box after box of coins of quarters looking for a real double die outside of the single squeeze Era and I cannot and have not found one. In the last month I have probably looked through 7 or so boxes. That $500 each box that's 2000 quarter per box. I have found none and only about 5 silver quarters. It's not easy but nothing worth collecting is easy to get. Unless your willing to pay. But finding that diamond in the rough. Well the search is half the fun. It's a good lesson in life to that good things don't get handed to you. Just be positive and keep him positive it takes time enjoy the quality time :)

After what you've already found, tweak800, you need a dry spell so somebody else can get lucky.

If you want to find him interesting coins then along with this forum some research and reading on your own or his own will go a long way if you havent already done so.

r u guys always making fun of new collectors, if so I don't know if my son would b allowed only I.

We absolutely do not do this. This forum prides itself on educating people and getting new ones in the hobby.

At various major coin shows each year, we give out tons of common (and a few not so common) coins to try and get kids involved with collecting.

Teachmind111, for better odds- search more coins. I get them at one bank and turn them back in at another. I'm pretty sure pennies entail the most varieties, while nickels have many errors, (nickel is a hard metal and messes up dies). Look for raised rather than incused issues. The best place I know to become a proficient searcher is right here. There are many people on here- staff and members alike, more than willing to share knowledge.
