Just the smallest Cud ever. Lol. Kind of looks like it took a git though too. But yeah, die chip/smallest Cud.

Thanks! It is raised so I don't think is a hit or PMD. Just a tiny Cud.

When I first started collecting in the early 60's. We would save these. We called them "Bar Nickels" because of the die break make it look like a small bar above the numbers in the date and even above the letters in "LIBERTY". The most "Bars" I ever found on a single coin was five. Strange but never found any with this "Bar" above the letters "IN GOD WE TRUST". No real value, maybe in BU condition it would be worth mentioning, but interesting.

Quote: We called them "Bar Nickels" Before I go any further, to CCF!! You are absolutely correct on this one. I've found several bar nickels so far this year, and I've only recently starting saving them, after realizing that, hey, maybe I should make a roll of them and sell them on ebay

To me it looks like the rim was damaged and has moved in that area. Note how the area next to it is missing. So check to see if it is moved rim in that area?

Well whatever you want to call it; die chip or small Cud. I saved them by the rolls in the 60's. hoping they would be worth something one day. they are NOT damaged rims.

The angle of the shot makes it hard to be conclusive for me. In the general area of a bar but looks like damage to me.

The Bar Nickels are analogous to the BIE Wheaties from the same time period. Many collected them in the 50s and 60s and they even traded for a premium but now it is just seen as a sign of a brittle die with repetitive chipping.
