"Buy the coin and not the Holder" is something I read on here often. I think this is a prime example.

Grade the coin and then try to guess the NNC grading as well.

The pictures aren't perfect but good enough for this I think.

NNC, is that centsles down in his basement?

Gotta think that is an NNC UHRPR70DCAM right?

haha, I guess this grader has a bad reputation, I can see why. I bought this from my LCS, he kept it in the holder as a conversation piece. I needed it to fill a hole in my collection and paid a fair price based on what I thought the coin was worth.

I kind of figured. Great idea for a thread. I get 5 cent silvers at my LCS in his junk bin, but it is the only coin in there he doesn't sell at melt. I still buy them. I love these little coins.

Yours is one of the nicer ones I have ever seen, but I don't know that that is saying much. I do own maybe 30 - 40 at roughly same to slightly worse grade overall from what I recall. Don't want to insult the coin or paint the tape with a first guess at grade that unduly influences other guesses, but I would guess VG to EF range. I honestly guess it is slabbed as an NNC MS61.

Centsles / NNC is a basement slabber on ebay, but like you said, you are buying the coin and not the slab.

I first found out about centsles (cents less?) on this forum. Was shocked to find I had him as a saved seller. I save all kinds of sellers that start lots of coins with no reserve and he must have fit a search once or twice to get saved.

The pics offered here are far too blurry to give a fair grade opinion. Looking at the rev upper right ,..I only see a full blurry view.

Saying that,..I'll give it a VF30 to EF40 and that's partially from the shine and flatness in the obv left side rim..

Truly a stab in the dark with those pics..

I'm at VF30, but am interested to see what was on the slab.

At best, it's a VF-30 coin.

I apologise for the pictures, I am still trying to improve in this area among others but that being said, it's hard to get perfectly focused because the coin isn't flush with the holder and there are also scratches on the holder.

I would personally agree with most of you and give the coin no more than a VF30. I'd be very happy if it came back with that grade. I paid no more than BV on a VF20 for it.
