Is that supposed to be a Jefferson nickel missing the obverse? Are there any details visible on that side?

Honestly, I'm not sure what we have here. From the dark look and worn, battered details, I'd say that it could have been stuck in a clothes dryer for an extended period of time. I'm inclined to say that it is PMD and did not leave the Mint this way. This is based on the fact that I've never seen something like this before, as well as the aforementioned color and wear. Do you have the coin in your possession? Would clearer pictures be at all possible? EDIT: DO NOT clean it. If it is something valuable, cleaning it will kill the value. Please wait until someone more knowledgeable than I comes along and offers a conclusive opinion.

1st rule of numismatics, never clean a coin. And could be a Greaser. Better pics are a must.

No Bob. Would not be. THere would be no way of having jefferson on the obverse, plus there would be an imprint of monticello.

I do believe I see an outline . I don't know its so smooth I suppose it could be a major Greaser. I have to rule out capped die I don't think that is what it is but wait for an expert . question is , is a mint error or PMD. DId you weigh it I'm curious?

I It he more I look at it I am not sure I see an outline either. I almost want to rule out capped die too. I just thought the ghost image reminded me of one. But I'm no pro, so I wait for one.

I suppose if you won't miss the five bucks then its a gamble. I say roll the dice and buy it.. Or just wait for an answer.

Is it thicker than other nickels? Does it weigh the same as other nickels?
I'm concerned because it doesn't have a rim, which means the obverse could have been worn away by something. Shouldn't it have a rim regardless of what errors we think it is?
