I've noticed a fair bit has been posted on these guys before and always ends badly lol but would just like to share a few comparisons I've made for the newbies that I constantly see defending them (i was bored so wanted to see exactly what they were like in the flesh and whats better than using them and wasting a bit of money) 1. I sent 2 small submissions of coins to APCGS for grading at different times (a few months apart with no problem coins), ranged from EF through to Gem UNC. Initial results showed that they undergraded the mint state coins on both occasions (appeared to mistake light toning for an issue and dropped the grade) and have an issue grading anything above MS64 in predecimals. Although they say that they grade to aussie standards under MS it appeared to vary quite a bit between the two submissions, some in the first submission that received AU58 were the same as some that were given EF45 on the next run ect. 2. So after being a bit concerned about the consistency I then cracked out those coins and sent them off to PCGS for their final home. Majority of their EF45 through to AU50 returned results of Au50-55 from the states which is reasonably inline with their statements. I did find a few way out though, a few of APCGS AU58's returning AU55 from the states aswell as a couple coming back MS62 (by their statements and AU55 should have been an EF45 so only 4 grades out :S) which means its pretty much a gamble if you are going to buy anything in this range. As for mint state they had no consistency there either, MS62's from them came back as MS65's MS64's came back MS63's. So you may end up supporting the Aussie local who will slab your coins cheap and quickly but PLEASE bear in mind they are that price for a very good reason and the above test outlines that pretty well.

great post cockatoo coins , you should also mention that there is no guarrantee with APCGS with either grade or authenticity , so if a APCGS coin proves to be fake you are left holding a useless coin with no way or getting your money back

Nice coin, looks fresh from a roll. APCGS was probably confused by the weak reverse strike.

Sorry guys, I can't agree with you on this coin. At best PCGS would grade this coin at AU58, look at the flat spot on her hair which is located lower than her reed

Odear yes the 1961 florin is a unc , my guess a ms63 , as for the 1915 florin imo it looks like it's had a clean with acetone to try and remove pvc residue , some pvc still remains , most likely it's had a dipping too . Still a very nice coin tho sadly PCGS would reject

My guess would be the darker bits on the coin would be maybe the lens, I would think the coin would look the same all over as what it looks like through the word Florin. What I have read, it's already submitted at the next Roxburys auction. I'm guessing somewhere in the 15-20k area
