I picked this up on ebay and was told it belonged to someone's deceased Mother. It had been wrapped in paper since 1934 was what I was told. I believe every word of it , This coin is mark free and has gorgeous underlying lustre. This defiantly has the "WOW" factor as far as I am concerned Grading opinions welcomed Edited by trout1105 08/24/2015 7:21 pm

Quote: Trout, beautiful example! What's top pop at PCGS? MS67 at the moment and the quality of the strike comes into play at this high grade . Unfortunately my coin doesn't have a particularly strong strike so I think MS 65 is the best this will get

It looks like the luster is strong enough to make up for the strike... and the surfaces are amazing!

Awesome coin. Being non-too-familiar with Aussie coins, can someone explain "Laura?"

Quote: Awesome coin. Being non-too-familiar with Aussie coins, can someone explain "Laura?" I am embarrassed to say I got the name wrong. The Lady that owned this was Named "Lorna" not Laura , I have changed the heading to reflect that mistake. I named this coin after the sellers departed Mother as they gave me the history of how this was stored and acquired. Here is the paper that this coin was stored in for all those years.

That's cool. Looks like a fountain pen was used to write that. Love looking at your coins, trout

It is nice to know some of the history behind one of my coins. This is an email I got from the seller after I had bought the coin. Quote: Jim, Wondered if you would be interested in it's provenance. This coin belonged to our mum. She originally had two, one has previously sold. She had them wrapped up and stored in her cupboard for years that my sister and myself can remember, occasionally she would bring them out to show us. She passed away in 2007, at aged 90 and we put most of her items away in cupboards till we could deal with them. We had looked and looked at keeping them but as no-one in our family has any interest and neither my sister or myself are coin collectors we decided to sell and hopefully go to a collector.
It is wrapped in some old paper with date of 1934 handwritten on it, and I will include with the coin for you. You can make your own decision on whether to keep or dispose. Her name was Lorna, and she must have bought it at some time from a dealer herself, maybe she was going to start collecting? Anyhow, just thought I would throw this info your way in case you are interested. Kind Regards Sue
