JFK Half Dollar Roll Hunters: Silver, Proofs And Other Finds

So far I am not happy with the Brinks boxes they have definitely yielded less silver than loomas. The one bank I deal with has the small square boxes and not sure where they come from there rolls or boxes do not have a name on them, they are just black and white rolls. I have gotten the majority of my silver from them. I really like finding the proofs too. I have found 56 proofs so far. I find the counterstamped one interesting, that someone would take the time to stamp them. Is anyone out trying to put a set together of different counterstamped coins? Just wondering.

I have three more of the Brinks boxes to open and I will let you know Shadz, I hope your are correct. I haven't pulled a barber half as of yet. My luck seems to be fading.

Just finished up 7 boxes, 4 of the boxes were skunks for silver the other 3 yielded me 2-90%ers and 4-40%ers, 1-45, 1-64, 1-66, 2-68, 1-69. I did pull a bunch of other coins out of the 7 boxes. Here is my bounty or booty which ever ones prefers. 1-74D DDO, 2-87P, 1-73 Clipped, 3-Clad Proofs, 74S, 84S, 03S, 1-counterstamped and 19-NIFC, 2-02P, 2-02D, 2-03P, 1-03D, 3-04D, 2-04P, 2-06D, 1-06P, 1-07D, 1-07P, 1-12D, 1-12P.

Shadz, yes all 7 of the boxes were Brinks boxes this round. Since I was able to pull a bit of silver out of them, I am going to try a few more boxes to see what happens. I was a bit surprised to get the 87P's. P coins are not easy to come in this area. Just got lucky. I pulled a red fender guitar pick. I find it funny they are in the rolls. Its the third pick I have gotten. One thing about Brinks boxes is they yield a bunch of NIFC coins. I believe that is the most I have pulled at once. Does anyone know whom is putting the cross counterstamp on the coins? I have pulled 4 of them.

Two boxes last week. The first box just had a few NIFC, but the second box broke my skunk streak with 1x90%, a '64-D, and 3x40%.

I have two more boxes coming this week so hopefully they will be a continuation of the silver from the second box.

Well now I am confused about what boxes to get next.Probably be July before I can get more as I need to get some quarters to try for the new ATBs.

Left that gold plated in about a cup of vinegar over night because I forgot it and the Obama stuff just floated off it with no change to the coin itself. guess it means it really is gold plated since vinegar and old penny residue in the dish didnt do anything to it. Can clearly read 2008 D on it now too. Whoever got the center part off of the "colorization" almost had it gone. Now what to do with it? Seems some Merick company made the thing, but their site only lists dollar coins not halves. Glad I had another 2008 D clad in the box to go with my NIFC set, but what to do with a 24k gold plated NIFC?

as for marking, I am wondering who is putting marker in Kennedy's ear? I get so many like that. Rubbing alcohol removes it quick enough, but why in his ear? You aren't supposed to stick markers in anyone's ear, that just isn't safe to do.

Had someone at a grocery tell me they had to weigh 2 rolls of halves last week or I could feed them into the Coinstar machine for them to take them, and I told them I wasn't afraid to count to 40 to spend them. Personally havent found a scale I like yet that doesn't take batteries. Batteries are so 1970s, and I want something I can't knock over that plugs into the wall. If I weighed rolls, it would probably be to see which ones to open first based on probability of silver. What do I need to weigh individual coins? 1/100th gram increments? the little postage scale I have is manual/mechanical with a weight attached to a keyring with a guide on it and my eyes just can't use it so good anymore. Is thee a thread about scales and where to find them on here that I just haven't dug deep enough to find yet?

i only weigh them so I open them last, I inspect every coin and have a large clad collection, as I massage each coin I think this one is a keeper, I have a roll that weighed 8.20 ounces I am figuring it has 5 90%s in it and I am holding out opening it, why would I because I can, once I open it then back to skunk boxes at least I know I have that roll, well it might not be loaded just have rocks in it but I'm riding it out...by tonight I might tear it open lol.....( I also have a roll with a 64 ender sitting in my collection)...i had franklin enders I couldnt hold out tore them open....

i always weigh the rolls with enders. it's a bit more exciting to see a roll weighing 11 oz. and save it for last
