Is it true that the only way to get current (2014) half dollars is from mint sets? Or are they still releasing them for general use?

You can either get them through mint sets or by ordering rolls/bags from the mint. Or find someone that did one of those options.

So finding a 2014 and a 2013 at the bank today would be fairly unusual?

Correct. It is possible, but unlikely. I recently got a bag of half dollars from my bank, and the newest was a 2008-S impaired proof. Another customer had cashed them in, maybe someone from this very thread.

5 Boxes and $460 leftovers from a box. 1 1964-D, a 1987-S, a 1987-D, and a handful of NIFCs. I've accumulated about $100 in NIFCs over the past few months and I'm still asking myself why. I'm thinking about tossing them back.
