Finally got around to searching through my bicentennials and the totals are in if anyone cares.
10 boxes yielded:
10% 1976 ($500/$5000)
2% 1976-D ($100/$5000)
This seems very strange and against the odds considering there we over 50 million more made at the Denver mint.

I live in southern Arizona, "D" country. For that one box of halves that I did, my bicent stats were:
1976: 14
1976D: 107
That kind of ratio, for here anyway, is not unusual.

You would think that nearly 40 years later, the ratio would have evened out a bit unless coins jsut get into one area and never leve. That would mean those people finding lots of silver in boxes will be the ONLY people finding silver in the boxes, and those not finding silver will never find that much silver, because the coins are already in the areas where they will spend the rest of their time as a coin unless it is carried, sold or shipped by someone other than the banking system to another area.

I've noticed that ratios for older dimes and quarters (25+ years) are evening out some. Same with nickels but not for cents (I guess they end up in jars).
But not so for half dollars.
For the 1971s, I got:
1971: 24
1971D: 121
I can understand higher numbers for the 71Ds due to mintage, but again I think being where I'm at helps skew the numbers for the D coins.

What distributing company has the half dollar rolls with the yellow stripes.....I get only black stripes from Brinks...looks like the yellows have a better yield. Thanksz for any info. bob

Loomis has yellow, and thye actually starter putting LOOMIS on the rolls.

I finely finished up my 4 boxes from last week, boxes 1&2 were skunks, box 3, I pulled 1-1941D walking liberty, box 4, I pulled 1-62D Franklin, 1-64 Kennedy, 3-67, 2-68, and 1-69. I also pulled 1-holed coin, 1-50 centavo, and an Protected by Angel Coin. Here are the pics, I am happy to get 9 pieces of silver, 3-90%ers and 6-40%ers. More is always better, some is always great. Most of my nice NIFCs are in holders and marked. I will likely place them in a safety deposit box and let them sit for a while. At face value, I see holding them long term as a decent strategy.

Jack Jeckel, your box of 39 40% and 10 Kennedys would be a monster box for me. Is that the best you ever had? I don't think there is any one out here who could beat that! I would love to get a box like that. For my first 28 boxes, I got 38 40%, and 11 Kennedys, with 10 Liberty and 14 Franklins. Is there anyone out there that has beat Jack's single box, and what would be your quantity needed to be a monster box for you. Enjoy the hunt everyone!

Nice finds everyone. I have not posted in a while but I have continued to search. The last 30 or so boxes have not been good. I did pull a 1986 commemorative clad proof a 50 centavos from Ecuador (like Arby got) and a 1942 Walker thats plated with something  I cant remember who but somebody else on here found one just like it earlier this year. Also I got a Loomis box that was filled with string and son wrappers which was interesting. I also was in Alaska for a week and got these types of roles in a little town that's only accessible by sea. Their was no silver.  I went on a hunt yesterday to 6 banks one had 7 halves 5 of which were 40% and another had 6 one of which was a 64. Only the second time this year I was able to get silver halves from a tellers tray. And the other time I only got one 40% and it fell into a hole under the seat never to be seen again  Funny story: The head teller who orders my halves got transferred to one of my dump banks. I told the tellers at my pick up bank and they said "that's what she gets for leaving"  and one of the tellers said the teller that moved sent her a text and said that she was going to have me order from her bank and dump at my pick up bank  . |
