Hodag, that is better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. No luck so far this week.

Not a CRH find, but worth mentioning.

So I have some rolled pennies sitting around and decide to head over to the bank to cash them in. When I get there, I noticed the teller had 2 dollar coins in the tray, a Jefferson and a 1979 SBA. She let me look at them, and I told her that I collect coins, and she said the teller next to her has more coins, so I could ask him. I did. He pulls out his tray, which is almost completely full of everything, from pennies to dollar coins. I asked him if anything was silver, and he said this one half dollar had a different looking rim. I asked him what year it was, and he said 1964. I eagerly said I would take it, handed him a dollar from the pennies I cashed in, and he gave it to me along with 2 ordinary quarters. Can you believe it? I've never CRH'd before and I get a 90% half for face!

TLDR: I got a 1964 half dollar for face value as my first silver coin from circulation.

Nice going 110!

Well, I did some CRHing today, and nothing special, but not a total skunk. I started with a box of pennies and got 10 wheats, including a 1919, 1929, 1938, and 1953-S. Not bad for four out of 10 not being commons. Next up was a box of dimes, and unfortunately a total skunk. I also got two boxes of halves today, plus at a different bank $3 loose from the teller tray. One of those was a 1966, so maybe the big one might hit today. This is in fact my first CRH with NIFC in mind, so I felt a new kind of excitement. I typically don't open for toppers since I like to put used wrappers in the box, but I did so for today. The first box was a silver skunk, but did have three NIFC's. The second box did have a 1969-D topper, but that was it in terms of silver. It did have eight other NIFC's, including a gold-plated (more of the tone used on modern $1 coins) 2008-P which had the Obama '08 covering partly over it until I removed it with my fingernails. I'd say when I complete an NIFC set and start looking for duplicates, I may start seeing the NIFC's as the "gas money credit" since there is a good chance these can be found and sell for around a buck each for a complete set on ebay. I did order two more boxes for next Saturday.

Thanks for your support, it's people like you who make collectors like me passionate about our hobby! I honestly was not expecting my first silver coin to be a '64 half, I thought it would be a dime or quarter from a Coinstar machine!

nice pickup 110!

I did pretty good today, including picking up one of the items on my wish list from last week. I guess talking about it helps it appear :-)

box 1: 2 x 40%
box 2: 1 x 40%
box 3: skunk
box 4: 1 x 40%, 41p, 64p, 64d, and....

2002s impaired silver proof!

I almost didn't go through the $1000. bag I got from another persons dump bank, but decided to go ahead and see what was in it. Came out with (1) 1964, (1)1966, (1) 2004 clad proof and 19 NIFC 2002-date. Either someone else dumped a few other coins or the roll searcher missed these 2 silver ones. Also searched 2 boxes that came from the bank where I hit my big box a couple weeks ago, these 2 boxes yielded (1) 1968. $3000. worth this week and slightly over 1/2 oz. of silver. Not a great week, but better than nothing. Maybe next week will be better. Since I started hunting in November I've found slightly over 42oz. of silver.

Nice finds guys, nice to hear folks are still striking the silver vain across the country. I still have 4 boxes to crack this weekend. I have been busy cataloging my World coin collection I have had for a very long time. I didn't realize I had that many coins. I have to Thank Robert for the wonderful coins he has sent me. He blogged on this page and now we are trading coins from. He has sent me some wonderful coins from England. Keep searching, Remember "LOVE THE HUNT!"

I did a bank run yesterday. Not much to speak of, really. One teller said, "I have all the halves here. I buy them from the other girls." She has to be cherrypicking them. Still, I took her leftovers, and they included a really dirty '68-D! Even tellers that keep silver don't seem to know (or care) about 40% halves...

4 boxes yesterday.

Box 1 had 1 40%er.

Box 2 had 4 40%ers.

Box 3 skunked.

Box 4 had a 40%er, a 1964, and some kind of Napoleon charm / token / watch fob. When I grabbed the roll it was in the wrapper was ripped open from the pendant portion being larger than a half dollar.

There was also a 1974D DDO and a Panama in the boxes.
