Finished my most recent box of halves and only found a 1996-s proof and a 2009-d NIFC. That was the first proof I have found in a while.

My best score was one Franklin, two 90% Kennedy's and three 40% Kennedy's in three rolls. This was back in September; that reignited my interest in collecting.
Nice score and welcome back to the hobby.

Dar that 2009 is not machined, this came from the mint this way, You would have to see it to understand. This plachet was not reeded properly. I don't believe its a true error coin, just one of those things, like die cracks and gouges, only a select few are considered error or VAMs. I believe it considered reed damaged. I am not an expert by any means.

Finished up my last 4 boxes for the week, only pulled 1-64D and 1-65, 3-NIFC, and another New Mexico Sunland Park Gaming Token. Not a very exciting week. Sure hope next week is better. I wish you all the best of luck. Remember "LOVE THE HUNT!"

@Arby

The 2009 was turned down in a lathe.

On a partial collar strike it would be the opposite of what you have.

Cool Grant Comm, Halfhunter. Haven't pulled one of those, matter of fact haven't pulled many Comm, halves. Jack, the 2009 I have, took a closer look, no tool marks at all. I don't think a lathe was used on this coin. I truly believe it came from the mint this way, but I am only 99.5 percent sure.

Thanks for all the nice complements

@halfhunter nice find I don't think I have seen anybody else find one of those.

Here are my notable finds over the last few months of going through boxes.

BU 1976 silver uncirculated edition.

When I found it I wasn't sure whether I should be happy that I found a silver commemorative or angry that it was holed. I just put it on my key chain with 2 holed 1964's I also found.

The observe is the hammer die.

The reverse is the anvil die.

Coins have no reeding until the smooth edge blank is in the collar and the strike pressure between the hammer and the anvil dies "spread" the metal into the collar where the reed design is.

The blanks load from the top.

If the blank planchet is not fully seated against the bottom of the hole or collar against the anvil die before the downward hammer die hits it you will end up with a partial collar.

Think of it like a muffin.

@halfhunter and Trent C

Nice classic finds.

The ONLY silver commem haklf I have ever found was a 1982 Washington.

I have found 8 modern proof silvers but to this day and going on $4 mil searched no classic silvers.

Conrats.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one being skunked. The other day, I went to meet someone in a small town, and went in some banks along the way. I scored a '66, but after that, nothing. I searched over $200 in halves: some loose, some CWR, and some machine rolled. All of them were skunks.

I figured out I have to change my strategy. I actually walked into a cash-for-gold/jewelry place near my work, and asked if they have any coins. The guy was actually extremely nice, and gave me a deal on a Peace dollar. He says he gets tellers bringing in silver fairly often. Our suspicions about them keeping the good stuff aren't far off.

He said to check back every day and see what he has. If you can't beat them, join them.

I am thinking the grant half would go ms as well. Definitely
probably my single best individual coin find.

I am probably around the 3 million searched mark, did cut back from 16 boxes to 12 a week,, then 10, I'm just doing 8 nowadays.

I have one barber, 7-8 of the statue of liberty, proof and regular strike, and one basketball proof. No washington one
ever found or booker t.

I have found 4-5 of the modern 90% kens.

All the banks I normally go to have been pretty dry, one hasn't been able to get the box I've been waiting on for two weeks now...

So I stopped at the one I normally avoid because the tellers there are all pretty stuck-up and do things strictly by the book and absolutely HATE the people that just have 'free-EZ' accounts with them (like me)..

It was worth the stop before I even left the counter though, 27 Brinks rolls and 3 CWR, and one of the CRW was loose enough that I heard the silver clinking from inside the paper!

All in all, the Brinks wrapped only had one 40% which was so grimy I didn't even realize it was silver and it was an ender! The CWR were nicer, two of the three were grimy 71/72 halves and the third was solid 40%!
