Hi,
Okay you have ruined me. I have tasted my first "coin crack" and I know I will need more. I heard a radio show while I was traveling on business about "roll hunting" for silver. It got me thinking about my youth and how much I had really enjoyed coins...then puberty hit and I found that I wanted to hunt for other things closer to my age and the coins were relegated to trunk at the end of my bed. Luckily I still own all those coins but the idea of roll hunting sounded fun I searched the web about a month ago and found this site and this forum where I have lurked learning what I could. Last week I mentioned this to my wife (I actually caught one...a perfect proof, uncirculated and well stamped. Being a wonderful wife she said she would keep her eyes out for 1/2 dollars. Long story short, she became a bit frustrated with my asking how much luck she had that day in finding rolls of 1/2 dollars and ordered 3 boxes which I opened last night.

Below are images of what I found. Having lurked and reading back on this forum I think I had a very successful first roll hunting experience. And I will admit that I am a bit concerned that I will be chasing this kind of success since it seems lots of folks getting skunked recently.

I found
1-64, 3-65, 4-66, 30-67 (4 are not pictured, my wife took them to have them looked at) 9-68 and 1-69
I also found a 1982 missing the F (but as you can see not the best condition)
1-1977s
And several of the not circulated later 2003+ though I admit I know little about them.

I only found 4 coins that had been marked so I am hopeful this area hasn't been picked clean. As you can see from the pictures I have the coins separated by year. I have 1 box of 71-74 and one box of 1776-1976

I would appreciate any comments or advice on what to look for in the non-silver coins. Below are some pictures.

The Lord gave me a very nice surprise this week with 70 pieces of silver. Of those 70 pieces 63 were 90%'ers all either Walking Liberty or Franklin. 41 were Walking Liberty, 22 Franklin and 7 Kennedy 40%. The year/mm breakdown goes as follows, Walking Liberty (1) no date/mm, (1) 1934S, (1) 1935, (1) 1935S, (1) 1936D, (1) 1939, (1) 1941, (3) 1941D, (1) 1941S, (2) 1942, (10) 1944, (4) 1945, (1) 1945D, (2) 1946, (2) 1947. Franklin (2) 1949, (1) 1950, (7) 1951, (3) 1951D, (3) 1952, (2) 1952D, (4) 1953D. Kennedy (3) 1966, (2) 1967, (2) 1968D. 2016 year to date silver 139.0282 oz. Only other notable finds were (1) 1978S proof and some 2002-date NIFC. I'm going to be able to fill several holes in my Walking Liberty and Franklin Dansco this week. The first box I opened held 68 of the 70 silver I got this week. When I opened it and found 5 enders I was hoping all 4 boxes from that bank would be loaded, but it just wasn't meant to be. One other box had 1 each of Walking Liberty and Franklin. The other two boxes from that bank were skunks as were the two from the other bank.

Although I've had boxes that held more silver, I think this was my best box ever for 90%'ers. The way things had been looking for the last few weeks I thought silver was getting scarce in this area. Just when you think something like that, BOOM a monster box! If there's more to that vein I hope I get it, maybe I can fill a few more holes in the Dansco's. Unless I'm mistaken this is the 5th box I've had that held over 20 oz. of silver, 3 of them this year. I'm still hoping for a monster box or two around the holidays! Both the last two Thanksgiving/Christmas/New Year holiday seasons I've got one during November-January. Certainly don't want to break tradition! For the last few weeks I'd been watching everyone else hit nice licks and was feeling a bit down that I wasn't getting much. This certainly raised my spirits.

trapper, that coin is old, low mintage, and in very good shape. What a remarkable find! congrats :-D

JKnew, welcome to the hunt, you are going to be hooked now. I hope you have a way to get rid of those coins.

And RCook, wow, that is quite the haul of 90%ers. That must have been a blast to open those rolls. There sure are lots of really good finds around here these days.

My Thursday 4 boxes gave up 8 silvers, and Friday boxes never arrived. Good luck to all next week, who knows what will be found!

Yes, going through those rolls was lots of fun, the kind of fun I'd like to have every week!! Every time I saw a white edge I'd start wondering whether it was a Walking Liberty or Franklin although in most cases I could tell by the wear on the edge. There were a couple rolls that had 6 silver in them and lot of rolls with anywhere from 1-4 silver. Thanks to everyone for the congrats and recognition of these beautiful coins!

Not worth it IMO, it's a damaged coin.

Thank you everyone for your comments on the liberty seated half I found this week.

Finished up 10 more boxes I have 5 more to go
Did not find much but found some nice coins

9.40%
6,90%
1909P Barber
1943D Walker
1954D & 1963D Franklin's
1964 Kennedy (2)

Earlier this week I found a 1861 liberty seated half
so this week I have found the last 5 types of 90% half's
Kennedy, Franklin, Walker, Barber & seated liberty.

In December of 2011 I found 4 types but no Kennedy
see page 595

Loving all the silver strikes out there, Trapper congrats on a barber a seated and barber all in the same month. RCook and JKnew awesome finds for you as well, almost 100 90%ers are not easy to come by. Fantastic! JKnew that 82P is not the No FG you are looking for. When you find one look a the base of the 1 and it will be missing, when you look at the base of the 1 you have its complete. Very easy to make that mistake. I believe Jack or Trapper gave me that information. I am off this week hunting, not happy, family comes first. Wishing you all the best of luck. Jknew boy did you open a can of worms by starting to search Halves. Now you will need to fill that fix! Once its in your blood its tough to stop. Hope everyone has an awesome week searching. Keep Posting and Stacking!!
