JFK Half Dollar Roll Hunters: Silver, Proofs And Other Finds

Congrats on the silver Berto, hope your other boxes contain more goodies. I picked up 4 of my boxes yesterday and will pick up the other two tomorrow. As usual I'll post the finds when I've searched them all.

This is a long story...Yesterday on my drive home from work, I needed to deposit the $500 in halves I searched earlier this week, from which I found 1, 65 and 1, 66 plus a 2007 clad proof (I previously posted this in this thread), so I pulled into a bank.

In my area, I'm required to reroll coins before depositing them, so I stepped up to a teller and dumped 50 rolls of halves out of my bank bag. The teller's eyes grew big, and she said, "Wow, I've never seen so many half dollars!"

I told her, "I'm a collector, and this is the time of year I search through halves to try and complete the booklets I'm working on for my 3 kids."

She said, "I hear some halves are worth $3 and some are worth about $7."

I said, "Wow, that's neat, how do I tell which ones are worth money?".

She thought for a second, then replied, "I'm not sure, but we have $30 worth of halves in the vault."

To which I replied "Great, I'd like to buy them", and I smiled. She took my 50 rolls to the vault and I waited for 5-10 minutes. At the time I thought she was taking the time to look through the 3 rolls she said were in the vault before she sold them to me...She returned with the 3 rolls, which were old, brown, plain wrappers that were taped on both ends. Instantly, my interest doubled.

As I'm paying for the rolls, she said, "we don't get many half dollars in, and when we do, people quickly buy them. I hope you find what you're looking for", and smiled. I thanked her and left with the 3 rolls.

One roll was completely filled with silver, and the others were clad!

I have been occasionally picking up CWRs of half dollars for 3 years, and this is the first time I have found a silver coin

The finds:
2, 64's
2, 65's
0, 66's
8, 67's
6, 68's
2, 69's

Not to be greedy, but I'm ready to find more!

I usually get 4 boxes on Friday but since last Friday was a holiday and I had off of work today I had them order 8 boxes.

I finally had a good score.

Box 1 had a Franklin ender: 2 Franklins and a 40%er.

Box 2 had and ender: there were 4 40%ers in that roll. I thought great a monster box. Well no more silver for quite a few more rolls. Ended up with 5 40%ers, 4 1964's, and a 1974D DDO.

Box 3 had an ender: 1 1964 and 1 40%er.

Box 4 had an ender: 16 40%ers and 2 1964's.

I did 3 boxes this week was suppose to get 4 more Friday but they did not come in. They said next week.
Found 2, 40% the toned 1967 my wife got from a teller

4 more boxes from Friday.

Box 5 had 2 40%ers, a 1964, and an Ellis Island.

Box 6 had 3 40%ers.

Box 7 was a skunk.

Box 8 had 10 40%ers and a 1964

I also stopped at my emergency pickup bank on Friday since I had the day off and picked up a box. Glad I did. It has 4 Franklins, a Walker, a 1964, and 2 40%ers.

Box 2 of 4, the second newer box from Loomis with Loomis wraps contained no silver, 3 NIFC, and one 1977 no "FG" (my first).

Box 3 of 4, the first of the 2 older looking boxes containing NF String wraps, had 3 enders on the rolls! Of the 3 ender rolls, the first contained 3, 40%ers, the second contained 2, 40%ers, and the third contained 2, 64's next to each other. I'm 15 rolls into the box and have 5, 40%ers, 5, 90%ers (all 64's), and 7 NIFC...this will likely be my best box ever

I'm too tired to look through more rolls tonight. Besides, I know the remaining coins hidden inside the remaining rolls won't get away

My wife dumped some dimes for me today she asked the teller for halves, this is the nice surprise she received.
He said an elderly women brought them in.
