When I found a single one in a box awhile back, I chalked it up to some kind of accidental damage--such as might be inflicted by a coin counter--but then I started finding more and more of them, all with identical scrape marks.
The marks might be a little hard to see in these pictures, but you get the idea. Some of them could have been upgrades for my folder, if not for the damages.
Like you said, there are literally hundreds of millions of beat-to-death, high-mintage half dollars out there whose collector value is nonexistent. I really wish that those would be a target of marking, rather than these...
Needless to say, I've still been saving them, if only to throw a wrench into the plans of that particular coin roll hunter. That is horrible! Sheesh! I mean all of those coins have mintages from 1.8-5 million... I'll also never understand the point of just "edge hunting" when there are so many other things to look for other than just silver - varieties, NIFCs, proofs, etc... I got a box of halves today. It took me all of 38 minutes to go through it coin by coin AND re-roll the coins. Yes, I was focused! In said box I found this really nice 1965 40%-er and also a 2002-P NIFC... not much else was there other than some assorted BU coins from the 1990s. I also asked a teller at a branch I normally drop nickels off at if he had any halves... He had 14, one of which was this 1968-D. I will take it! John that's one beat up '64 Kennedy. Who cares it's still 90% silver. I've probably got a few that look just as bad. -RCook The funny thing with that half is it was an ender, tail side up. It looked for all the world like a beat up copper-nickel coin from the early-mid 1970s. I opened the roll, heard the familiar "clang" and was shocked to find that was the silver coin. CRH Nickeloholic. 1,600,000 nickels searched in eight years! Have found FOUR complete Jefferson sets!

4 boxes from Friday: other than a couple of NIFC skunked.
Went to my emergency pickup bank on Saturday and got a box: lots of coins I dumped in January but found a couple of NIFC and 2 40%ers and a 1964. The box had the same date stamp as the other 4 from Friday.

Today was my first skunk order since I started back in July I think it was. This order and last order were all different wrappers from what I usually get. Last week I found one and this week a complete skunk. Once again a lot of the coins were marked. I'm gonna keep trying for a couple weeks and see what's happens. If I keep getting tons of marked coins I may have to stop for a bit and then maybe change sources for a bit. Good luck all!

4 boxes over the last week or so Box 1: Nothing Box 2: 1 40%er Box 3: 500 1976s and no silver Box 4: 2 40%ers in the first 2 rolls!  Then nothing after!  |

Today is pick-up day again and I'm just getting around to updating my finds from last weeks boxes. The silver was flowing good in this part of KY last week. I had 32 pieces last week 16 40%, 1 1965, 1 1966, 6 1967, 4 1968D, and 4 1969D. This left another 16 pieces which were all 90%, among them was 1 1941S, 1 1951D, 1 1952S, (Dansco hole filler), 1 1954D, 1 1958D, 1 1960D, 2 1962D, 1 1963, 4 1964, and 3 1964D. I also got 1 1974D DDO, a few clad proofs with one of them being a 1994S World Cup commemorative. 2017 YTD silver 39.1858 troy oz. carloscoria, congratulations on completing your Kennedy album. If I can get the 2017 D&P Kennedy's I'll have a completed business strike set with all coming from roll searching except the 1970D. Edited by RCook

RCook - great finds nice to hear that silver is still flowing been slow here average 5-10 pcs out or $4K per week.
If your looking for a dump bank ask the head teller where they are getting rid of the coin machines if they would take back coins in bags.
My bank even provides the bags to me and take them back without any issue.

Nice finds folks! Congrats on the set Carlos. And Rcook, those are great numbers. Keep up the great finds! I won't be back on the hunt until Monday, no boxes for me this week. I probably missed a seated half and a 70d and 70s and a silver Canadian and Panama half lol. Those are right at the top of my list.

And at least a couple silver commemoratives and a silver proof or two. That'll teach to you skip getting boxes. Allfome, the word I got today from my head teller is that corporate is wanting to take out the coin machine and stop them from doing special orders for me. She said management at the bank is fighting it so maybe there's still a slight bit of hope. Edited by RCook

Well the skunk streak is back on, 9 boxes this week all skunks, my last two boxes contained many coins I marked from 9/16 to 3/17, You can see many coins marked more than once. I know some don't like these coins marked, marker doesn't hurt the coins in my experience. Off to dump and pick up another 4 boxes. Good luck everyone.  "LOVE THE HUNT!"

You do not like it Jbuck you are, you do not like the marker scar! LOL, Last four boxes only 1 produced silver, It sure is nice to open a box and see a Bell face up, that box produced 1-63 Benny, 1-64D, 1-66, 1-67, and 2-69, Thought for sure after a 9 box skunk streak for the start of this week I would get totally skunked this week, happy it didn't happen.
